Unipak Tissue Mill has partnered with the TESSA initiative led by ICU to promote sustainable economic growth in Lebanon.

In a significant move to combat Lebanon's economic and financial challenges, Unipak Tissue Mill has partnered with the Towards Energy Sustainability and Socioeconomic Advancement (TESSA) initiative. This innovative program, headed by Istituto per la Cooperazione Universitaria (ICU), seeks to promote sustainable economic growth while addressing critical energy and environmental issues in the country. Unipak Tissue Mill’s involvement underscores the growing importance of private sector participation in driving national recovery and sustainability.

The TESSA initiative is a multifaceted program designed to create a resilient and sustainable economic framework in Lebanon. Its primary goals include supporting green businesses, providing training for essential skills and professional roles, creating a supportive regulatory and institutional environment, building capacity in energy management and financing, conducting fully funded energy audits, and launching pilot projects based on the ESCO business model.

Unipak Tissue Mill: A Leader in Sustainability

As a key player in the manufacturing sector, Unipak Tissue Mill’s participation in the TESSA initiative highlights its commitment to sustainability and corporate responsibility. Known for producing high-quality tissue paper, the Lebanon-based tissue mill recognizes the importance of integrating energy efficiency and sustainable practices into its operations.

After a year-long process, Unipak Tissue Mill (UTM) has been selected among 250 applicants to benefit from several key opportunities under the TESSA initiative:

a) Fully Funded Energy Audit: Sponsored by ICU, a comprehensive energy audit will be conducted at Unipak Tissue Mill to identify potential areas for energy efficiency improvements.

b) Grant for Energy Improvement Project: Following a detailed review of its proposal, the tissue mill has been awarded a grant of $32,400 to fund its "UTM Energy Improvement Project," aimed at optimizing energy usage and reducing environmental impact.

In addition to these milestones, Unipak Tissue Mill has also applied for the "Financial and Green Business Transformation Plan" with Berytech. During the last session held on 13 September 2024, the manufacturer was selected from among 20 companies and awarded €7,000 to cover financial, managerial, and technical consulting services. These resources will further strengthen the company’s capacity to implement sustainable practices effectively.

Furthermore, Unipak Tissue Mill participated in the "Green Business Strategies" training provided by Opus Energy as part of this program. The training enhanced its capabilities in sustainable business operations, and the tissue mill earned a prestigious platinum badge through the Green Business Benchmark evaluation, solidifying its position as a leader in green innovation.
